Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center is a 360-bed non-profit hospital and regional referral center serving a 17-county service area in Athens and northeast Georgia. Founded by physicians in 1919 as a community hospital, Piedmont Athens Regional now provides a Level 2 Trauma Center and Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, urgent care centers, and an extensive network of respected physicians, surgeons, and specialists. The medical center is in the final phase of its $171M expansion and renovation project.
Merik provided building enclosure commissioning services that included roofing, exterior cladding, wall systems, below grade waterproofing, doors and windows. Our work began at the design review stage and will be completed at project closeout. Merik self-performs the field testing of all building enclosure components.
A mockup of the window and wall system was tested in accordance with the ASTM E-1105 water and air chamber testing standard. The testing was conducted using a calibrated spray rack and air chamber vacuum to create a pressure differential complying with the specified pressure requirements.
Michael Baker is a Principal at Merik, Inc. who is a Registered Architect in five states and Registered Roofing Consultant. Mike has over 40 years of varied architectural and building enclosure consulting experience. Mr. Baker has served as an Architectural Program/Project Manager, Design Architect, and Construction Inspector. Over the last 7+ years, Mike has been a Senior Building Enclosure Consultant conducting and managing building enclosure investigations, enclosure field testing, water intrusion investigations, and property condition assessments for new and existing buildings. He is a specialist in roof assessments and replacement design. Mike provides building enclosure consulting services for Architects, General Contractors, Developers, and Building Owners.
Prior to joining Merik, Mike spent 6 years as a building enclosure consultant at Terracon Consultants and 1.5 years as a Roofing Consultant for the USPS RAMS Roofing Program for Wood, PLC – both companies in Atlanta, Georgia.
